Clearaudio's line of tangential tonearms began with the original Souther tangential arm of the 1980s. Clearaudio were so impressed with the design that they purchased Souther and began making the original TQ-I tangential tonearm. Since then, Clearaudio's patented Clearaudio tangential tracking tonearm designs have added many improvements along the way.
The Statement TT1 is the ultimate design, created specifically for the flagship Clearaudio Statement turntable.
The benefit of tangential tonearms is that they exactly follow the tangential path of the cutter head used on record cutting lathes. This means that the path the stylus takes as it tracks across the record is exactly the same path that the cutter head took as it cut the record.
The Statement TT1 places the stylus at a perfect tangent to the record groove which inherently guarantees zero tracking error. Additionally, due to the tangential nature of the tonearm, no skating force is generated at playback so no anti-skating compensation is required.
The 8.6 kg resonance-optimised chassis is precision machined from panzerholz (bullet-proof wood) and aluminium. It glides backwards on stainless steel rails to allow record changing, then slides effortlessly back into the playback position and is held there with a magnetic locking system.
The arm tube of the Statement TT1 is longer than that of the TT2 / TT3 and is tapered, further reducing arm resonance and also counteracting the negative effects caused by warped records.
The entire arm assembly is fixed at both ends and is both easy to fine-tune for perfect performance and an absolute delight to use.
